Chocolate Orange Cake

This deliciously yummy chocolate orange cake recipe was comes from a guestposter Joanne (via Facebook).

Preparation

Grease and line 2 x 7″ sandwich tins, turn oven on at 170 degrees or Gas mark 3 and put on a favourite CD.

Sponge Ingredients

  • 6oz Self raising flour
  • 6oz Marg
  • 6oz Caster Sugar
  • 1 tsp of Baking powder
  • 3 eggs
  • 2 tbls Cocoa
  • Grated rind of 2 oranges

Sponge Instructions

  1. Put all in a mxing bowl and mix up, I always use an electric whisk.
  2. Share between two tins.
  3. Put in oven for about 25 mins or until skewer is clean.
  4. Remove from oven and leave for 10 minutes before turning out onto a wire rack

Topping and filling Ingredients

  • 3oz Granulated Sugar
  • 3 floz evaporated milk
  • 4oz plain chocolate orange
  • 1.5 oz butter

Topping and filling Instructions

  1. Put sugar and milk in saucepan and heat slowly whilst mixing to make sure all sugar melts.
  2. When sugar is melted, bring slowly to the boil and simmer very gently for 6 mins.
  3. Take pan off heat and stir in chocolate (broken in small pieces) then stir in butter.
  4. Put in fridge until spreadable ( about 1 hour).

Now, spread the yummy chocolate orange paste between the two sponges, across the top and over the sides before cutting out the biggest slice ever (about a quarter should do) and tuck in.
